“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”
— Margaret Wheatley
True Beauty Day Spa
(www.truebeautydayspa.com): the current home of SoulFood, and a fantastic place for a whole range of spa services provided by a great staff…also owned by my sister, Leslie, so say hi while you take some time to take care of yourself! The best part about True Beauty? They use natural/non-toxic products and support local entrepreneurs. Located in Dover, NH.
Carlygirl Healing
(www.carlygirlhealing.info): Another of my favorite mentors, Carol brings her signature mix of deep empathy and no-nonsense honesty to her spiritual guidance, astrology, and other endeavors. Not only is she a gifted healer, she is also active in the community supporting End 68 Hours of Hunger. Located near Keene, NH, but she does online sessions as well.
Ancient Traditions Natural Medicine
(www.naturalmedicinenh.org): Angela Lambert is a licensed naturopathic doctor who does so much more - Five Elements Chinese medicine/acupuncture, biological medicine, homeopathics, etc. - she truly addresses wellness from every perspective…including Western medicine when appropriate because everything has its place. Angela radiates more energy in one visit than I will ever have in an entire lifetime, she is an amazing asset to the healthcare community and truly cares about everyone she works with. Located in Portsmouth, NH.
Spring Thunder Taiji Arts
(www.springthundertaiji.com): I can’t describe it any better myself, so here are Scott’s own words, "I am an Acupuncturist with a passion for the Internal Martial Arts, Neigong, Meditation and Celtic Inspired Dream Work”. Though I am not personally familiar with all of these areas of practice, I highly recommend his tai chi (taijiquan) and medical Qigong classes currently held at Integrated Massage & Wellness. Located in Dover, NH.
Spiral Touch Healing
(www.spiraltouchhealing.com): Massage is my go-to here, but Catherine also does spiritual healing, reiki, hypnotherapy, and other healing modalities. She is a shamanic healer, has been practicing and teaching massage for many years, and no matter what you might be working with her on, her intuition and encouraging words are always spot-on. Located in Kittery, ME.
Angelic Essence Healing
(www.angelicessencehealing.com): Carmen has been a family friend and a steady presence in my life for more years than I can count. I also owe her so much gratitude for being my reiki teacher and constant supporter. She is many things, but being a gifted intuitive, medium, reiki practitioner, and nature photographer (no joke, wild creatures seem to love her, too!) are the big ones that come to mind. She also offers workshops on a variety of topics. Located in Keene, NH but contact her about the option of traveling to the seacoast area and/or online.
Amour 24 Hair Salon
(www.amour24dover.com): Any business with a name that means “love yourself everyday” gets points in my book, but these are also some fantastic women and badass changemakers who bring so much to their work and their clients. I first met my stylist at least 15 years ago when she owned her own salon (funny story…in exactly the same spot where SoulFood is now), and I am so glad she has landed here. Located in Dover, NH
Local Feminist Made
(www.localfeministmade.com): In the words of Barb, one of the most amazing humans I know, “Local Feminist Made and Local Feminist Aid were started as tools to rewrite our current narrative into one that benefits all people and the environment that we live in”. Barb works with local artists to curate monthly boxes and otherwise support these fantastic people and their work. She’s also just a really fun person to know. :)
Rage Gems and Jewelry
(www.ragegemsandjewelry.com): Locally made jewelry and gifts. In the words of Kathleen Cavalaro, owner and creator, it’s “your friendly neighborhood feminist store”. Don’t we all need one of those?!
Rabbit and Pelican
(etsy.com/shop/rabbitandpelican): Dear friends, Waldorf teachers, and talented artists, Leda and Lisa specialize in handmade jewelry and needle-felted fairies, of which my children have collected several over the years. They are most often active in the craft fair scene, but they welcome custom requests via their Etsy site.
Allgood Strategies
(www.allgoodstrategies.com): Owned by a friend and amazing business mentor, Erin Allgood, this is the go-to place for help with your business or organization if you’re looking to up your game in the realm of serious social impact. I’m not kidding, you can’t help but be inspired to put on your own superhero cape with a smile and get out there to do some good, too. Located in the Dover, NH/seacoast area, but contact her if you might be elsewhere to see if you can arrange something.
Be Well With Bowen (Rachel Willerer)
(www.bewellwithbowen.com): Rachel has been helping me and my family for several years now, and she’s fantastic and funny as well. Bowen is a very gentle therapeutic technique that involves stretching fascia, or the body’s soft tissue, to promote healing. I don’t use the word “magic” lightly, and really it’s not since there’s a lot of science behind it, but this is one of those things. Located at Summit Holistic Health in Exeter, NH.
